About Camp

At 2-4-1 Gaston Day in Summer 2022, we are excited to expose your children to the state-of-the-art facility at beautiful Gaston Day School with a gorgeous air-condtioned indoor field house and multiple playing fields. All campers will get to sample multiple sports and enjoy lunch in the campus' beautiful dining hall. We expect to send out a GoogleForm as camp draws near allowing those registered campers going into Grades 3-9 to choose from the following fun-filled sport choices (subject to change):

Soccer, Baseball/Softball, Basketball, Flag Football, Racket Sports (Pickleball, Badminton, Table Tennis, etc), Volleyball, and Universal Sports (see description below).

Universal Sports: Campers love that they never know what they'll get each day. Each year it can vary and sometimes even involves community partnerships.  Maybe it's the Israeli dodgeball game known as GaGa. Maybe it's Team Handball or Ultimate Frisbee.  Whatever it is, you can rest assured, it's incredibly fun and the skills learned crossover to our traditional sport offerings.

When campers arrive on Day 1 - they will receive a name tag showing the order of their sports based on their choices.

Campers will have the option of bringing their own lunch or purchasing lunch from the GDS dining services.

Those campers going into Grades 1 and 2 will follow their own format. See description for Junior 2-4-1 below.

Junior 241

For boys and girls going into grades 1 and 2 (fall of 2022)
While the times and dates of Junior 241 are the same as our traditional camp, the programming itself is age-appropriately different. In keeping in line with the “241 Crossover Effect” – we see it as so important that these youngest athletes crossover to our traditional program having had the most positive of experiences. With that in mind – our staff focuses on infusing skill instruction into serious fun! We want their first introduction to multiple-sports to be one where they leave asking for more! Junior campers don’t choose sports - we bring the sports to them!

Camp Director: Casey Field
Casey Field is the long-time Athletic Director at Gaston Day School (GDS).  Coach Field is proud of the highly respected Athletic Department he has built at GDS where roughly 70% of students in 6th-12th grades participate in one or more sports. Gaston Day has been home to state champions, athletic award recipients, and individuals receiving college athletic scholarships.  GDS is also home to students-athletes who give their best to their team on a daily basis without much public recognition.

A graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South, Coach Field recently announced that the GDS Athletic Department was just recognized by the Aspen Institute's Project Play as one of four model programs in the United States.

2-4-1 Sports is delighted to be collaborating with a visionary like Coach Field and having our campers be exposed to his leadership and the wonderful coaches and Student-Athletes at GDS,

The following are our COVID Specific Protocols/Changes/Modifications for Summer 2021 - We will update these for summer 2021 as camp draws more near based on then current requirements.
Please note that additional specific details will be emailed as camp draws closer, but the following are large changes for you to be aware of:
  • As camp will be held primarily outdoors, we have moved the hours of camp to 8AM-2 PM
  • Campers will be assigned to cohorts of 10-14 children and spend camp that week with their cohort (campers can request a friend to be with).
  • If the forecast indicates dangerous weather for that day, we will cancel and the Saturday of that week will be a makeup.  If we must cancel 2 days, a prorated credit will be made available for a future program.
  • While staff will be required to have mask available at all times, campers are not required unless going indoors (which is why we are not allowing the cohorts to co-mingle).
  • As we work to make camp as fun and as safe as possible, for a detailed rationale of these and other changes that 2-4-1 is considering at all of our programs, please read this post from earlier this summer.
